Gorillaz: Humility
The Line animation studio is a place very dear to me. There's something about working with the that doesn't feel like work at all, more like being with friends and making art together. That spirit runs through the whole studio, and it's a rare thing to find in this industry.
I joined the small compositing team on Humility, the lead single's music video from Gorillaz's The Now Now album, towards the end of the project at The Line. Even coming in at the tail end, it was a big moment for me. Gorillaz has always been one of my touchstones in terms of character design and universe-building (since I bought there first album when I was 17), and Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn's work has long been a real source of inspiration.
The job itself was a treat. That distinctive blend of 2D characters dropped into live-action plates, where the craft is in making something this stylised feel completely natural. Getting to contribute even a small part to a project I've admired for so long, alongside people I love working with, was a quiet career highlight.
