Shanghai Fortress
I joined Territory Studio to work on this show as a generalist TD with a more traditional hard surface / set extension VFX specialist (compare to their more UI driven VFX). Simon Carr as a VFX supervisor and a small team of really good artists.
The sequence had been shot with placeholder props and my job consisted in redesigning, modeling, texturing and shading parts of the set in order to replace the placeholders with with enhanced CG element. The command center’s design brief was to make it look like something that had been built fairly rapidly and with existing technology so is a combination of older tech and contemporary developments. We had to provide a design that felt plausible as near-future, whilst allowing for the additional capabilities of an alien power source.
I wasn’t involved in the creation of the holographic city map and shield-state display which was handled by another artist.
Having full control of the 3D environment, we were able to match depth of field, defocus style and allow elements to interact with the lens across over 150 shots.
